Urban Security Suite

by Engineering Services Inc.

USS provides a comprehensive modeling platform for easy-to-use, fast and reliable estimation of blast and thermal loadings and their effects on various types of buildings in urban environment involving single or multiple buildings of a city block. The software package is intended for law enforcement officers, security officers, building/facility security managers, and similar users who want either a quick vulnerability assessment of structures and human beings in a blast and fire incident or detailed analysis to find effective protection and mitigation measures.

Urban Security software is an Expert System that was developed for use by law enforcement, homeland security, and infrastructure sectors to address the following issues:

  • Analysis of blast and fire impact and effect on structures/facilities and humans in complex urban environments
  • Determination of mitigation measures to increase a facility's resistance to blast/fire attack, including modeling of structural retrofits and hardening of facility's layout
  • Special security-oriented tasks, including VIP protection, and pre- and post-blast analysis.
  • USS is designed using contemporary Expert System methodologies for modeling and analysis of complex effects of blast wave propagations in urban setting (confined spaces, shielding spaces, diffraction and ingress, etc) and structural effects. The USS platform integrates various modeling methodologies and nonlinear data approximation techniques in the program. Being a knowledge-based Expert System, USS possesses learning capabilities that enable it to (i) naturally incorporate new blast models/knowledge; and (ii) improve the accuracy and generality of the blast models already encapsulated in its knowledge bases.Relying on Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Database technologies, USS provides user-friendly and highly efficient means for setting up 3D graphical models of typical buildings in small or large scaled blast scenarios, automatically parsing the models to extract geometry information required by blast and thermal loading and response analyses.
